Equipping our Firefighters
The Santa Barbara Firefighters Alliance has raised over $2,000,000 toward the procurement of safety equipment that our local fire officials have identified as critical to their training, firefighting, and rescue efforts.
The Santa Barbara Firefighters Alliance has acquired:
- Mobile command center
- Rescue canine support vehicle
- Fire curtains that provide refuge to firefighters trapped and engulfed in flames
- Night vision goggles which enable helicopter crews to continue firefighting effort at night
- Hand-held global positioning system (GPS) units so crews fighting the back-country wildfires can determine and report their exact location and track containment
- Weather monitors that track sudden changes in wind, humidity, and temperature that occur during severe fire conditions
- Specialized victim location equipment for use in dark and smoky conditions
- Jet skis to expedite water rescues
- Drones to locate potential fire risks in homes and busineses, keeping crews at a safe distance
